South Beach is part of the American Camp National Historical Park and is the longest public beach on the islands, with views over the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the Olympic Mountains. All along this two-mile pebble-and-sand beach, a wide swath of massive driftwood has washed up and been bleached in the sun for decades. This site is part of the National Park Service and beach stewards will require a short training from the NPS cultural resources specialists to ensure cultural resources are not disturbed.
